DazyWeb Laboratories SA-3002 PC Spectrum Analyzer Readme File

I. Introduction

The SA-3002 uses full duplex soundcards to perform audio spectral analysis on equipment placed in the loop between the line or mic input to the soundcard and the line out. Optionally, an external source connected to the line input may be spectrally monitored. To save on download time, a self installing compressed file has not been used. The Visual Basic Development System automatically includes the runtime library ( 1.4M file ) if a self installiing application is created which would 4X the size of the download. To manually install, save the executable file in a directory of your own choice and create your own shortcut. Simply erase the files to uninstall. You will need the Visual Basic 6 runtime library (MSVBVM60.DLL) which comes stock with Windows 98 or newer operating systems and is downloadable from Simtel.Net for Windows 95 users. Additionally, you may need an OCX control called: COMDLG32.OCX which is included in this zipped file. Try running the SA-3002 first and if it gives you an error referencing a missing COMDLG32.OCX, then move the above file into your Windows/System directory with all the other OCX's. Then, relaunch the SA-3002. The Windows drivers that interface to the soundcard have a tendency to lock up when several programs contend for the use of the soundcard. If you already have one program open that uses the soundcard for input monitoring, close it before attempting to run the SA-3002. Only one program can be open at a time that sends audio out and likewise, one program that can montior the audio inputs. Soundblaster 16 cards with early drivers may even stay muted until a computer reboot. The newer the soundcard and operating system, the more stable the sound system seems to operate.
